by xtracycleinc

Paul the Fossil Fool is the only MC who can rock a mic while he rides his bike. He is the inventor and producer of the Soul Cycle, an on-board audio system for bikes and the Down Low Glow, a neon lighting system that he designed and built. I met Paul two years ago at my first Maker Faire, where I saw his incredible bike for the first time. Last year he organized Rock The Bike a human powered music stage and this year will feature 10 local bands. Hey paul do you think I have enough links up for you? See you this weekend

Scraper Bike - By Tyrone Stevenson Jr

Photos by Jacob Fenston

The scraper bike was birthed in Oakland by Tyrone Stevenson Jr., a 20 year old. AKA Baybe-Champ Da Scraper Bike King/Creator/Inventor. The idea came from cars that ride in Oakland called scrapers — basically an old model car, such as a Buick, that's painted a custom color to match the bright rims that are so big that they scrape the inside of the wheel well. Stevenson and his friends took those aesthetics and applied them to bicycles, fitting large wheels on small frames. The movement went viral when a video about scraper bikes when up and went global with 3 million views. Tyrone is right now working on getting his own store front and working in is his community to help keep the youth out of trouble and in a positive frame of mind.
"The Scraper Bike Movement seeks to capture the creativity of youth living within dangerous communities. It gives them a positive outlet that is fun, educational, and promotes healthy lifestyles. The Scraper Bike Movement offers youth a sustainable group of peers that is positive and motivating. They want to expand and enlighten young people's perspective on life through fixing and painting bicycles. Our goal is to support youth entrepreneurship and cultural innovation. The Scraper Bike Movement has been around for about 5-6 years and is now starting to get exposure worldwide."

The Scraper Bikes will also be at this years Maker Faire

Tom Kabat is a former serious cyclist who still loves bikes. An engineer, 30 year bike commuter and bike tourer (Trans America 1976), Tom was inspired to build bikes after seeing other great home built pedal machines at Kinetic Sculpture races and a wide variety of antique bikes on display in museums. I had the weird pleasure of riding on a few of these bike at the maker faire last year and trust me, they don't ride like a "regular" bikes. But the beauty of these strange contraptions is that you get to see your life flash before your eyes over and over again. Once you get the hand of it then you are free to ride around maker faire as much as you can take. I know I am going to try it again this year.

Circular Bike for Circular Reasoning

Circular Bike

via

The coolest circular bike ever made was created by a student at UCSB. He took nine salvaged bikes, tube steel and yellow paint and reassembled into a carousel formation in the spring of 2003. The bike is modular and can be dismantled and reassembled. It is normally left in public places where it can attract a variety of riders.

Car or Bike? Either Way Good for the Environment

Not sure about this salvage special. Is it a hybrid car that's pedal powered or is it a really safe bike with a car shell. Either way you see it, the environment is a winner. As a hybrid it uses very little gas and that's good but the power source will produce a bit of methane every once in awhile. Now as a ultra safe bike this is also good especially on a front end collision or a roll over down the ditch. I can't say anything about getting rear ended, but it is safe to say your you will have a sore touchy for a month but will cut down on the methane emissions for a month as well.

Fuzzy Scouter at made at Fashion Week

This fuzzy scouter looks like it was created from the all the leftover material from this years fashion week. Which of course I know nothing about but I assume any model caught on this beauty would be given at least fifty strands of spaghetti...to eat. Its late folks and I am simply delirious and my free association filter is on the fritz.

Ballon Scouter - By Crazy the Clown

How would want to be the lucky clown that got the request from little "Bobby" to make this crazy balloon scouter? Oh yes, meanwhile there is a line of angry kids at the party waiting for their flowers and poodles. Kids let this be lesson, you will at some point in life end up behind the guy with 16 items at the 15 items or less line.

Hamburger Harley - I want fries with that.

via

Harry Sperl has created one of his long time dreams.

The dream ... a hamburger motorcycle. That's right!! A Harley-Davidson trike fashioned to look like an exact replica of a hamburger; And this burger's got all the trimmings.

With cheese, pickles, onions, lettuce, and tomato, not to mention a side of fries and a shake, this bike is gonna make your mouth water when it goes by. You'll be able to see the steam coming off the medium rare beef patty, of course its rigged that way.

Airbrush artist Chris Cruz is responsible for the detailed paint work on the entire burger trike, from the melting cheese front tender, to the ketchup bottle shock covers.

Involved in every step of the production of the trike, Harry says, "This is just the beginning'. Harry intends to construct a hamburger golf cart and a hamburger drag car. But the next project, now that the trike is done, will be the Hamburger Museum, according to Harry.

The Hamburger Museum building will, of course, look like a double bacon cheeseburger, and will be the resting place for Harry's elaborate hamburger collection.

Harry owns over 500 burger replicas of all sizes and all kinds of materials from plastic to glass, and owns over 1000 burger related items like posters, pictures, and memorabilia from all restaurants. It would take Harry too long to build the museum by himself financially, so he is looking for a sponsor to help with his dream to display his collection.

And why has Harry been collecting burgers for over 7 years, he loves to eat them. To Harry hamburgers are an important part of his life. Originally from Germany Harry feels the hamburger is Americana. He loves burgers because they are an icon of the United States.

Harry still goes burger hunting at flea markets or anywhere there may be burgers. Harry currently displays his burgers in his home in Daytona Beach, and holds an open house once a year to show off his collection.

Cyclecide Bikes - When men and scrap collide

When men and scrap bikes collide you get cyclecide , a group of other worldly creative genius who have taken it upon themselves to transform scrap bikes into death defying rides of pure fun.
Their mission statement best describes who and what they do.

"Heavy Pedal Cyclecide Bike Rodeo is a club of alter-bike mechanics, mariachi-punk musicians and psychotic clowns who love bikes, beer and building stuff. Together we form a traveling pedal-powered carnival that is fun for people of all ages."

Bellow is a great collection of art bikes they have created so far and the video puts it all together. These bikes are best understood live but the video is the next best thing.

BYOBW - Big Wheel Down Hill Races

Bobby's Big Wheel by Bob Sokol

This massive Big Wheel Art Bike gets the "DUDE!!!!!" award of the day. Nothing but pure never going to grow up fun. There is nothing like a big wheel to make you feel like a kid again, nothing at all. When you were a kid you felt like the King of the Side Walk with that massive wheel between your legs, cruising as fast as your little legs could pump those pedals. So its no wonder that in San Francisco they came up with BYOBW races. Check out this cool video from last years event. I want to go.

Marshalls Promoting Shoes with Red Stilleto Art Car Knock Off

Photo Via Steve Hall

Marshalls is now in the red stiletto art car knock off business promoting shoes. The original Red Stiletto Art Car was originally created by David Crow from Seattle. As far as the art car community is concerned this stinks but on the other hand they say that "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". It sounds great on paper if David had gotten compensated for his creativity but he didn't. I think I saw a "made in china" sticker on the heel of this one.

Disco Vespa - Chabling (I made that word up)

This Vespa is what I call "Chabling" a made up word for the coolest disco Vespa ever on the planet. At a moments notice you could hang that sucker from a ceiling and BAM!!!!, instant disco, rave, all nighter with the glow sticks and fur clothing. You can also just ride "Chabling" downtown at night and get the same effect. Photo came from somewhere on flickr sorry I can't remember where.

Donut Art Car a Bit Tricky to Eat - SF Soapbox Races

This video was sent in by my father-in-law which I might add is a great cook. Erik Glass and Richard Kirby recently participated in the Red Bull Soap Box Derby in San Francisco with their bright pink donut race art car with sprinkles and a spoiler on top. Its your typical keystone cops scene, robber steals donut from cops, cops tripping over themselves, robber takes off down the hill, cops chase in hot pursuit. Very Funny.
