Dumpster Driving - Keep your trash and drive it too.
Here is what happens when a dumpster diver takes his trash collections to the next level by making a "Dumpster Driver". A car for people who stock pile trash in the back seat, so they can keep the trash and drive it too. via

Convertible Mercedes Art Car in Under Two Hours

Do you have an art car event or parade this weekend and have nothing to drive? The experts over at Mercedes Source have boiled the entire art car making process down to a science in just under two hours. They managed to convert this 123 Mercedes into a convertible complete with flame job, custom rims, skull and cross bones and the all important message on the side. In his case it reads "Born 2 Drive" and all you need is a crew of about 5 people with skills in: Chopping, ripping, spray painting and a little design. So no more excuses, go out there and "git r done".

Well known flamboyant artist Kelly Lyles who is known for "Leopard Bernstein" and "For the Birds" art cars,  has now created another amazing art van called the "Excessories Odd-Yssey" using a Honda Odyssey minivan.

This van is a reflection of her love of fashion and having fun with her wardrobe, especially in grey Seattle where she desperately wants to see more colour. Kelly's art van is covered with women's accessories: shoes, purses, belts, jewelry. The hood is a giant paper-doll with magnetic outfits of her own clothes. The dashboard is tiny doll clothes with all the matching accessories. Prada eat your heart out.

Corporate Hippie Oxymoron Art Bus - By Radio 96.3

Corporate Hippie Oxymoron Art Bus - Radio 96.3 Cool BusCorporate Hippie Oxymoron Art Bus - Radio 96.3 Cool Bus
This Radio 96.3 Cool Bus was sent in by Wallie an art school bus from Seymour Indiana created as a promo bus for their radio station. I think this falls under the "corporate hippie bus" category which I believe may be a total oxymoron.

That Car #2 By Greg Phelps
That Car I is a 1990 Mazda Miata, covered in toys, plastic, glass, bone and a lot of doll heads all glued on with silicone. He drove it between 1999 and 2006 and is now a part of the permanent collection of the Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft as a functional piece of art.
That Car II, a 1999 Chevrolet Cavaliergot got started in the spring of 2006 and is also covered with plenty of reconstructed dolls, toys, skulls, shells and reflectors that he is always double-checking to make sure nothing goes flying off the car onto the highway. Nice work.

Igloonator 2000 - "Cool" Igloo Mobile Art Car

Igloonator 2000 - Igloo Mobile Art Car
Igloonator 2000 - Igloo Mobile Art Car
One New Yorker found a way to keep cool this summer by converting their Toyota car into an igloo. What better way to stay cool in traffic on the way to work than to be sitting in the "Igloonator 2000" art car conversion kit. A natural way to keep cool for hours on end and never having to waste gas with the AC turned on. The Igloomobile was for sale on craigslist a while back .via

VersaTile Art Car by Big Al

VersaTile Art Car by Big Al photo by Krazy Horse

"VersaTile" is 1971 Buick Centurion (455cu V-8) covered with over 600 pounds of ceramic tile and china plates and 100 caulk tubes of Silicone. Created by Al "Big Al" Bartell, this 5,200 pound behemoth is a mosaic masterpiece. Big Al spent six months carefully crafting "Versatile." The car defines opposites: sun/moon, day/night, heaven/hell, male/female, coyote/road runner...The sleek lines of this Buick make an excellent surface for the broken shards of tile and plates that Big Al collected from garage sales and from his family then meticulously glued them each into place. "VersaTile" is Big Al's first art car, but you'd never know it by looking at it. via

Penguin Martini Shaker Car For Sale

Martini Shaker Penguin Car For Sale Martini Shaker Penguin Car Hood For Sale

This 1985 Mercury Grand Marqui penguin car is for sale for only 1000 bucks, only if you really really really want it now on craigslist. Its claim to fame, a single penguin martini shaker as a hood ornament, and a stuffed one in the back window. I think its time to cut back on the martinis for a while, I don't know, I am just saying.

19 Donk Cars Covered in Candy Paint

Some time ago I posted a video about a cars covered in Cheetos and Doritos vinyl graphics, and the other day I found the ultimate Facebook car called a "Donk". I got some grief over it because one of my art car friends did not think it was considered an "art car". For me its a unique form of expression that deserves some face time here on Art Car Central. They also look like a lot of fun to drive around in so I managed to find 19 top corporate brand covered cars with famous cereal, snack and drink names.

These "hi-riser" or "sky-scrapers" cars have gigantic rims ranging from 22" to 30"and extremely high ground clearance that resemble urban 4x4's,  are called "Donks". The term "Donk" came from the impala symbol on any Chevy impala from the year 1971 to 1976, because the symbol looked like a "donkey". It became popular in the south to cover these cars with name brands using vinyl car wrap technology.

The most popular type of car used are Chevrolet models, namely the Impala, Caprice, Monte Carlo, and Chevelle. Other models that are frequently made into hi-risers include the G-body Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Cutlass, El Camino, Pontiac Grand Prix, and Pontiac Bonneville.

So for your sweat tooth, cereal and salty snack enjoyment, I present to you 19 tasty Donk car treats.
